THE MARSH KING’S DAUGHTER A woman with a secret past, Helena (Daisy Ridley), ventures into the wilderness to confront the most dangerous person she’s ever known: her father (Ben Mendelsohn), who has escaped from prison. The animated family film features the voices of Michael Rapaport, Freddie Prinze Jr., Chevy Chase, Dionne Warwick, Julia Michaels and Billy Ray Cyrus. GLISTEN AND THE MERRY MISSION When a toy shortage hits Santa’s workshop before Christmas, young elfling Marzipan must go on an adventure to find Glisten, a magical snow deer. PG-13 (for full nudity, some violent content, thematic elements and sexual references). THE MISSION This documentary covers the events that led to the 2018 killing of American missionary John Chau when he attempted to contact one of the world’s most isolated Indigenous peoples on India’s remote North Sentinel Island. R (for strong violence, language and brief sexuality). While the thriller doesn’t do anything revolutionary, it does what it does as well as any movie this year. It is a character study of someone who has no character. The film is a stylized, lean crime drama obsessed with surfaces and design, as well as its hero’s demonstration of an odd moral code. (B+) THE KILLER Michael Fassbender and Tilda Swinton star in director David Fincher’s action-adventure film about an assassin involved in an international manhunt. PG (for action and some suggestive material). INSPECTOR SUN In this animated family comedy, Inspector Sun boards a plane for a much-needed vacation, but when an enigmatic millionaire receives a threat on his life, Sun is back on the case. It’s an incredibly goofy jumble of tones. The brightly lit, green-screen heavy film about an ex-special forces operative (John Cena) and a journalist (Alison Brie) who escape into a jungle after a military coup, is also a surprisingly cynical political story about the influence of global corporate entities in South America. ![]() (D+) FREELANCE Pierre Morel’s punishingly dull film looks and sounds like an action-comedy in the vein of The Lost City or Romancing the Stone, but the script, by Jacob Lentz, clearly wanted to be more of a political commentary before it was molded to fit the capabilities of its stars. At the Angelika Plano.įIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY’S During his first night on the job at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, a security guard soon runs into trouble in this horror flick starring Josh Hutcherson and Mary Stuart Masterson. R (for strong bloody violence and some language). One other trick is to turn a rose upside down and spin the stem in your hand, this will force the bloom open quickly.BOUDICA: QUEEN OF WAR Boudica, a Celtic warrior and queen who ruled the ancient Iceni people alongside her husband, King Prasutagus, must lead her army against Roman conquerors after the king is killed.
